Eagles Club... hell I thought that was a private club that did not allow women, blacks, or jews to join in getting shit faced with other white Christian white guys. Ooops, I guess it was.
Family spat divides televangelism empire - Faith- msnbc.com: "The church is in financial turmoil: It plans to sell more than $65 million worth of its Orange County property to pay off debt. Revenue dropped by nearly $5 million last year, according to a recent letter from the elder Schuller to elite donors. In the letter, he implored the Eagle's Club members — who supply 30 percent of the church's revenue — for donations and hinted that the show might go off the air without their support."

Colonel Jessup Moment
I'm watching close. I'm not a gambling man but I'm thinking el Rushbo is close to a Colonel Jessup moment. He has come close but the lawyer hasn't quite pissed him off enough yet. It may very well happen within the next two weeks.
Jane Devin: Courting the Jester: The Slippery Right's Love Affair With Limbaugh
Just another way that the Pube machine slimes their followers. Pure unadulterated bullshit is what Rush and the boys peddle, and get paid millions to do it.
Jane Devin: Courting the Jester: The Slippery Right's Love Affair With Limbaugh: "Taking his cue from dogmatic Republicans who can't stop repeating the mantra of corporate tax cuts long enough to address the truth, Limbaugh used his PR opportunity to mislead more Americans than usual. The 35% tax rate is born from a paper figure that has little to do with the reality of what corporations actually pay. At the risk of repeating information that seems to bounce right off the collective conscience of the dittoheads, the fact is that despite the high bracket tax rate on paper, many corporations pay no taxes at all, and those that do pay, don't pay anywhere near 35% after deductions, incentives, and loopholes."

The Washington Monthly
All Hat No Cattle. I first saw it about 5 years ago in an article about the Bush "ranch". He dressed like a cowboy, but all he had was brush and that is what he did, cleared brush. On his "working" ranch, he had no cattle, no sheep, no crops to raise to feed non-existent farm animals. Hell, at least you would expect to find an example of the Republican mascot... a chicken hawk, but noooo! And that is what Andy Card is talking about here, its the suit, according to him that makes you a President not what you actually do.
The Washington Monthly: "Traditionalists may not approve of Obama's easy-going style, but we're a long way from a 'laissez faire locker-room experience.' A frat house it isn't.
The other thing to consider here is exactly how one 'respects' the presidency. For Card and others who served with Bush, it's about choice of clothing. For those who serve with Obama, it's about honoring institutional limits and the rule of law.
Or, put another way, where exactly does a loyal Bushie get off talking about 'respecting' the presidency? Did George W. Bush always wear a coat and tie? Sure. Good for him. But while he was wearing nice clothes and demanding that his staff do the same, he also oversaw a scandal-plagued White House that trashed constitutional norms and routinely ignored the laws that the president twice swore to faithfully execute.
One respects the office by honoring its place in a constitutional system, not by wearing a suit."

Campbell Brown Challenges Rush Limbaugh To Economic Stimulus Debate (VIDEO)
I got money saying Rush Limbaugh don't go on this program and debate anything. The man don't debate. He may masturbate to a photo of Ronald Reagan or Richard Nixon, but he is chicken shit to go on any program and have someone make him attempt to argue his ideas (demagoguery). In fact I got $50.00 to the first 5 folks that respond by midnight tonight, if Rush goes on this show.
Campbell Brown Challenges Rush Limbaugh To Economic Stimulus Debate (VIDEO): "So, ultimately, there are two schools of thought, cut taxes or stimulate the economy another way. Virtually nobody falls into one entirely camp or the other. I, too, would like to pay lower taxes.
But, ultimately, the facts are the facts. But maybe it was worse for a lot of people. Every recession is hard on -- on some people. But we are in a very dire situation right now.
BROWN: All right, Ali Velshi with that perspective tonight. Certainly, I will reiterate my request for Rush Limbaugh to come on.
VELSHI: Absolutely.
BROWN: And we could actually have this as a debate. But, Ali, appreciate it tonight. Thanks, as always."

Head of the Grand Old Party
Rush Limbaugh and Sarah Palin head of the GOP. I don't think I could be happier. Think I'll have a beer... an imported expensive one.
Gibbs: I Will Not Lie - Political Hotsheet
This a breath of fresh air, he actually wants to do the work of the President not necessarily play "the President".
Gibbs: I Will Not Lie - Political Hotsheet: "Gibbs also discussed the somewhat relaxed style at recent official events, where piano music and not 'Hail to the Chief' could be heard wafting through the White House hallways as the president entered. (Also often missing: The formal announcement “Ladies and Gentlemen, the President of the United States.”)
Gibbs chuckled about the elevator-style music. He said he didn't know if the president had asked that musicians not play the presidential march but noted that Mr. Obama 'is not a pomp and circumstance kind of guy.' He said the president 'is much more interested in the substance of the job.'"

GOP govs break with party over stimulus - Politics- msnbc.com
Wait, wait! What the hell is going on here. According to Rush Limbaugh the stimulus package and anything Obama is supposed to fail. Why is the future (according to Rush Limbaugh) of the Republican Party going to Washington to beg for money? What a bunch of jokers.
GOP govs break with party over stimulus - Politics- msnbc.com: "The 2008 GOP vice presidential nominee, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, scheduled meetings in Washington this weekend with Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky and other senators to press for her state's share of the package."

Media Matters - For four hours after AP correction, Drudge flogged false claim about undocumented immigrants
Drudge is a liar. But then again, so are most of the Pubes. The party with no ideas or ethics.
Media Matters - For four hours after AP correction, Drudge flogged false claim about undocumented immigrants: "Summary: A Drudge Report headline stated 'HILL REPUBLICAN: STIMULUS GIVES CASH TO ILLEGALS' and linked to an AP article that reported that '[t]he $800 billion-plus economic stimulus measure making its way through Congress could steer government checks to illegal immigrants, a top Republican congressional official asserted Thursday.' A revised version of the article made clear that the claim is false, but the Drudge Report did not remove the headline and link to the original version of the article until roughly four hours after the new version was available."

Legum’s New Line » 5 Facts About The New RNC Chairman
Whew, that was close, I was worried they might elect somebody with a little cunning and forsight. This guy is a nut case so we got what we wanted.
Legum’s New Line » 5 Facts About The New RNC Chairman: "Steele defended former Gov. Bob Ehrlich’s decision to hold a $100,000 fundraiser at a country club that did not allow non-white members, saying that the club’s membership’s policies were “not an issue” because “I don’t play golf.”"

Lawyers, Guns and Money
This is what Rush Limbaugh and Karl Rove wanted to do to the Democratic Party. Unfortunately it backfired and we have the first African-American President. Good job Rush and Karl!
Lawyers, Guns and Money: "The coach of a Texas high school basketball team that beat another team 100-0 was fired Sunday, the same day he sent an e-mail to a newspaper saying he will not apologize 'for a wide-margin victory when my girls played with honor and integrity.'"

White House Watch - Dan Froomkin's Blog on washingtonpost.com
And I'm pretty certain we won't see VP Biden telling the opposition, as Little Dick Cheney did, to "go f**k" themselves. On second thought, maybe he should. What a class act he was.
White House Watch - Dan Froomkin's Blog on washingtonpost.com: "'By making very public overtures – traveling to Capitol Hill, inviting Republican members to the White House more than once, including to a cocktail party after Wednesday’s vote – he has already distinguished his administration sharply from those in recent memory, analysts say. And he’s begun work on the difficult task of remaking the highly partisan culture of Washington, as promised in his campaign.'"

MotherJones Blog: Phil and Me: Ex-Sen. Gramm Says of the Economic Collapse, Don't Blame Me (Video)
The mother of all whiners is back. This time, in typical Republican fashion, blaming everyone but himself for something he did. Go watch the video, its hilarious. I remember when he was running for President in the Republican primaries and his tag line was "its time for those riding in the wagon to get and push the wagon", or some such drivel.

Man freed 23 years after wrongful conviction - Crime & courts- msnbc.com
Man, that Nancy Grace is right, we don't need no stinking defense lawyers. Those filthy defense lawyers always wanting innocent people to go free. Shoot.
Man freed 23 years after wrongful conviction - Crime & courts- msnbc.com: "A man sentenced to life in prison for killing a woman in 1984 had his conviction overturned and was released Friday after spending 23 years behind bars.
Robert Lee Stinson, 44, walked out of the New Lisbon Correctional Institution in street clothes and hugged his sister and members of the Wisconsin Innocence Project. A judge vacated the sentence after the Project argued that bite-mark analysis and DNA evidence didn't match evidence from the crime scene, defense attorney Byron Lichstein said."

McClatchy Washington Bureau | 01/30/2009 | McConnell warns GOP that it must broaden appeal or die
A poor sales job! How about piss poor governance. How about ethically challenged and perverted Senators and Representatives. How about the fact that Republicans have pretty much run this country since 1980 and have screwed it up royally.
McClatchy Washington Bureau 01/30/2009 McConnell warns GOP that it must broaden appeal or die: "'We're all concerned about the fact that the very wealthy and the very poor, the most and least educated, and a majority of minority voters, seem to have more or less stopped paying attention to us. And we should be concerned that, as a result of all this, the Republican Party seems to be slipping into a position of being more of a regional party than a national one,' McConnell told the gathering.
'In politics, there's a name for a regional party: it's called a minority party. And I didn't sign up to be a member of a regional party . . . As Republicans, we know that common-sense conservative principles aren't regional. But I think we have to admit what our sales job has been poor. And in my view, that needs to change.'"

TPMMuckraker | Talking Points Memo | Boulanger Pleads Guilty
Yet another personally responsible, evangelical, free-market believing Pube bites the dust. This guy is a cutie and will make somebody a nice prison bitch.
TPMMuckraker Talking Points Memo Boulanger Pleads Guilty: "Goodbye Savile Row, hello orange jumpsuit.
Todd Boulanger, the fashion-forward former lobbyist and Jack Abramoff crony who was indicted earlier this week for bribing government aides, has pleaded guilty, reports the Associated Press.
Boulanger has been cooperating with the investigation, according to his lawyer. Under the terms of his plea deal, prosecutors are recommending that he spend 18-24 months in prison, with reduced time if he continues to cooperate.
Boulanger was an aide to Sen. Bob Smith, a New Hampshire GOPer, before working with Abramoff as a lobbyist."

Another nail for the worst President in History coffin.
Crooks and Liars: "'We knew that the mortgage-brokerage industry was corrupt,' the first of the retired FBI officials told the Seattle P-I. Ex-lawmaker Wester Cooley is accused of investment fraud - Democratic Underground
Another ethically challenged, Rush Limbaugh supporting Republican, bites the dust. Good.
Ex-lawmaker Wester Cooley is accused of investment fraud - Democratic Underground: "A former U.S. congressman from Oregon has been indicted on charges related to an investment fraud scheme that took more than $10 million from victims, federal prosecutors said.
Wester Cooley, 76, who served two years in Congress in the 1990s, was named in a seven-count indictment filed in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles.
Cooley, of Palm Springs, and two others are accused of soliciting hundreds of investors from across the country to purchase unregistered stock in Bidbay.com by falsely claiming that the company would be acquired by EBay Inc. at a substantial profit."
The indictment alleges that Cooley laundered $1.1 million of the illegally obtained money in 2002 and failed to declare the income on his tax returns. Cooley was previously convicted of making false statements about his military record in an Oregon voter guide.

The South Vs. Obama - The Daily Beast
This is what Rush and the boys want.
The South Vs. Obama - The Daily Beast: "On Wednesday, January 28, 2009, President Barack Obama’s $819 billion stimulus plan passed the House of Representatives, despite the solid opposition of the Confederates.
By the Confederates I mean the Republican Party and their allies among Southern conservative Democrats. The battle in Washington is not between liberals and conservatives; it is between the Union and the South."
The vote about the stimulus package was not about economics. It was about nullification. It was the bipartisan Confederacy sending a message to the rest of America, stricken by the greatest crisis since the Depression. That message? DROP DEAD.
Those who think that the Democrats could have won over more Republicans by making more concessions do not understand the neo-Confederate/Dixiecrat mentality. There was no one to bargain with on the other side. The Republiconfederate “alternative”—a joke of a bill consisting almost entirely of tax cuts—would not be taken seriously by any mainstream conservative economist. It was pure provocation.

Putin’s Grasp of Energy Drives Russian Agenda - NYTimes.com
And just who supported this? None other than the Great El Rushbo. He said we should tell the towel heads to shove it, we would buy our oil from the Russians. Now that is pretty doggone stupid... but, what has Rush ever gotten right?
Putin’s Grasp of Energy Drives Russian Agenda - NYTimes.com: "Indeed, from his earliest days in power in 2000, Mr. Putin, who left the presidency in 2008 and became prime minister, decided natural resource exports and energy in particular would not only finance the country’s economic rebirth but also help restore Russia’s lost greatness after the collapse of the Soviet Union."

Republicans Gather for National Meeting - washingtonpost.com
Under G. W. Bush the answer is no, no,no, and no on those questions. Rush likes to go on and on about how the Pubes need to be extremely right wing conservative... but ain't it funny that when the Pubes held the House, Senate, and the White House, he never found time to criticize them. He devoted his shows to bashing everything liberal as the so called "conservatives" were out giving away the farm.

Greg Mitchell: Yes, the Media Helped Elect Obama, But...
Move over Joe Wurzlebacher, if we get real lucky it will be Palin / Limbaugh in 2012 or Limbaugh / Palin in 2012, with Bristol Palin as Head of Abstinence Policy, and First Dude as, well, First Dude.
Greg Mitchell: Yes, the Media Helped Elect Obama, But...: "So the preposterous media coverage of the (few) unhappy Hillary-ites at the Dem convention - which was aimed not at helping Obama but maintaining interest in the affair and the coming campaign - inspired McCain to select as his running mate someone who would virtually destroy his campaign (as I make clear in my new book on the campaign).
Recall that after months of trailing, McCain came out of his convention with a bump that led to at least a tie with Obama in the polls -- then he plummeted very quickly as the truth about Palin seeped out. A week after the GOP convention ended, polls were already showing (as many of us, if not most MSM pundits, had predicted) that , if anything, women thought LESS of Palin than did men."

FDA finds multiple problems at peanut plant - Food safety- msnbc.com
This is the free-market system in action. What does the commie Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn want the FDA do, make them comply with safety regulations? That costs money. Its only 8 dead so far, that's less than some large cities see in a month.
FDA finds multiple problems at peanut plant - Food safety- msnbc.com: "The company’s actions “can only be described as reprehensible and criminal,” said Rep. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., who oversees FDA funding. “This behavior represents the worst of our current food safety regulatory system.”"

GOP Leader Pushes Back Against Limbaugh Line
I hope and Pray the Republican Party embraces Rush Limbaugh. Nothing better could happen for the Democratic party.
GOP Leader Pushes Back Against Limbaugh Line: "But how sincerely the party wants to embrace the Limbaugh base is a trickier debate. The GOP is holding a retreat this week to plot out its future and the issues it will pursue. Among the headlining guests will be former Gov. Mitt Romney, Gov. Tim Pawlenty, and Gov. Mitch Daniels, said Pence. Asked if Limbaugh was on the invite list, he replied: 'Rush Limbaugh will be welcomed at the Republican retreat.'"

TPMMuckraker | Talking Points Memo | AIGers Who Sold Risky Deals To Get Millions In Bonuses
The CDS's did not cause this mess... poor people did. Just ask that mountain of knowledge, Larry Kudlow. You might remember him as the guy that called Paul Krugman a "housing bubble head".
TPMMuckraker Talking Points Memo AIGers Who Sold Risky Deals To Get Millions In Bonuses: "AIG, the insurance giant that was essentially nationalized in September, has confirmed to the Associated Press that it's paying bonuses to employees who sold credit default swaps -- the very deals that helped cause millions in losses, leading to the company's collapse."

TPMDC | Talking Points Memo | Coleman's Supposedly Friendly Witnesses Backfire
OMG! There is voter fraud. And its a white Republican male in Wisconsin.
TPMDC Talking Points Memo Coleman's Supposedly Friendly Witnesses Backfire: "One of the voters was Douglas Thompson, who admitted under oath that his girlfriend filled out his absentee ballot application for him, signing his name with her own hand and purporting to be himself. His ballot was rejected because the signature on his ballot envelope (his own) did not match the signature on the application (his girlfriend's). The Coleman team's argument appears to be that he is still a legal voter in Minnesota, as the signature on the ballot was his own, even if admitted dishonesty was involved in getting the ballot."

Peanut Plant Knew of Contamination, Officials Say - NYTimes.com
I'll bet these dumb Sons of Bitches will believe in the free-market system now by God. Government isn't the solution... Government is the problem. We don't need no stinking Consumer Protection Agency.
Peanut Plant Knew of Contamination, Officials Say - NYTimes.com: "The Georgia peanut plant linked to a nationwide salmonella outbreak that has killed eight people and sickened more than 500 knew on at least 12 occasions over the past two years that its product was contaminated but sold it anyway, according to federal officials."

GOP House Member To Rush Limbaugh: Back Off
HOT DAMN!!! I knew it would be fun once we got somebody with a backbone and intelligence!
GOP House Member To Rush Limbaugh: Back Off: "Right now Rush is being played. The Obama dinner with conservative columnists, shortly before his inauguration, was as much about excluding Rush as coddling the columnists. Not only did the conservatives fawn, but Rush fumed. It got under his skin. Indeed, the rumor that he might in fact be there (likely coming from the Obama camp), and then his evident lack of an invitation, highlighted the slight. He's tried to make it out to be a political point ever since, but mostly he sounds like a guy who's hurt he didn't get invited to the hot party."

Vacation Time
Isn't it time Obama took a vacation. I'm thinking he has more days in the Oval Office than GWB at this point. We will watch this and post as it comes available.
Crooks and Liars
Read this article. I was wondering how Rush would spin Obama's popularity and success... here it is, Obama marginalizes Rush Limbaugh. Limbaugh does not need the "Censorship Doctrine", all he has to do is criticize Obama being Obama. They are searching for any angle they can spring. Period>
Crooks and Liars: "Of course, a dose of their own medicine is exactly what we needed to send these nutcases into a paranoiac frenzy that would make an oxycodone addict blush. See, for instance, Hannity's discussion with his ace panel on Fox last night:"

Rush is the GOP.
Crooks and Liars: "When hasn't Rush Limbaugh been the face of the GOP? Why is it so hard for the media to admit this simple fact? Rush speaks for the GOP. He speaks many of the impolitic fusillados that they all believe in, but would never say out loud although during the past eight years we have heard some pretty sick things coming out of the House Republicans."

These guys have Rush Limbaugh covering their back. Its true, Rush said it just the other day that he was the one to stand up for them.
Dark side of Wall Street at center stage - U.S. business- msnbc.com: "The dark side of American business was on full display Tuesday.
Four men accused of varying degrees of defrauding investors out of millions — or even billions — were either arrested, investigated, surrendered to authorities or sentenced to prison.
It was a stunning refrain of alleged deception while the country struggles with the deepest recession since the Great Depression in a week that has seen major employers announce thousands of job cuts and consumer confidence fall to a record low."

Op-Ed Columnist - The Same Old Song - NYTimes.com
The "liberal" media helped push the entire Republican agenda.
Op-Ed Columnist - The Same Old Song - NYTimes.com: "When the G.O.P. talks, nobody should listen. Republicans have argued, with the collaboration of much of the media, that they could radically cut taxes while simultaneously balancing the federal budget, when, in fact, big income-tax cuts inevitably lead to big budget deficits. We listened to the G.O.P. and what do we have now? A trillion-dollar-plus deficit and an economy in shambles.
This is the party that preached fiscal discipline and then cut taxes in time of war. This is the party that still wants to put the torch to Social Security and Medicare. This is a party that, given a choice between Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan, would choose Ronald Reagan in a heartbeat."

Crooks and Liars
Typical Republican, all mouth, no facts.
Crooks and Liars: "The problems that emerged were more fundamental. Kristol’s writing wasn’t compelling or even very careful. He either lacked a talent for solid opinion journalism or wasn’t putting his heart into it. A give-away came in the form of four corrections the newspaper was forced to run over factual mistakes in the columns, creating an impression that they were rushed out without due diligence or attention to factual claims. A senior writer at Time magazine recounted to me a similar experience with Kristol following his stint in 2006-07. “His conservative ideas were cutting edge and influential,” I was told. “But his sloppy writing and failure to fact check what he wrote made us queasy.”"

LIMBAUGH SLAMS OBAMA - New York Post
Finally, someone stands up to the Limbaugh juggernaut... And I'll be damned if it ain't a black man with a little smarts. Rush is scared. If Obama gets this right, then all Rush has stood for comes undone. Oh, he'll still have his money and a certain following, but, you can see the winnowing of his influence. And that is what Rush thrives on, not money.
LIMBAUGH SLAMS OBAMA - New York Post: "'You can't just listen to Rush Limbaugh and get things done,' he told top GOP leaders, whom he had invited to the White House to discuss his $825 billion stimulus package.
The conservative blowhard opened his show by saying, 'I'm the man you should not be listening, according to President Obama.'"

President Barack Obama bashes financial giants for squandering bailout funds; vows crackdown
Rush was right, we need Obama to fail and fail big, otherwise we might see a little more accountability, and we sure as hell don't need that.
President Barack Obama bashes financial giants for squandering bailout funds; vows crackdown: "President Obama pushed for more aggressive monitoring of the Wall Street bailout Friday - and he put corporate swashbucklers on notice he'll crack down on their lavish extravagances.
Obama was teed off after hearing reports of companies receiving taxpayer cash, 'then going out and renovating bathrooms or offices.'
He vented over a 'lack of accountability and transparency in how we are managing some of these programs to stabilize the financial system.'
One of Wall Street's biggest power players, Merrill Lynch CEO John Thain, was abruptly ousted Thursday after it became known he had spent $1 million to decorate his office - including a $1,405 trash can."

Even Al-Quida takes lessons from Rush Limbaugh.
To combat Obama, al-Qaida hurls insults - Washington Post- msnbc.com: "WASHINGTON - Soon after the November election, al-Qaeda's No. 2 leader took stock of America's new president-elect and dismissed him with an insulting epithet. 'A house Negro,' Ayman al-Zawahiri said.
That was just a warm-up. In the weeks since, the terrorist group has unleashed a stream of verbal tirades against Barack Obama, each more venomous than the last. Obama has been called a 'hypocrite,' a 'killer' of innocents, an 'enemy of Muslims.' He was even blamed for the Israeli military assault on Gaza, which began and ended before he took office."

TPMMuckraker | Talking Points Memo | John Thain's Top Ten Greatest Moments
Here, read about a Rush Limbaugh's Corporate CEO hero. And had we elected McCain and the Slaughterers Daughter, we would have had this clown running the Treasury Department. For years Rush has raved about how these guys were the true hero's of America's economic might. And to think Rush has millions listen to him daily.
TPMMuckraker Talking Points Memo John Thain's Top Ten Greatest Moments: "If there's one corporate honcho who's emerging as the poster boy for all the varied Wall Street sins that the financial crisis has exposed -- not just greed, but callousness, obliviousness and general incompetence -- its Merrill Lynch's former CEO John Thain.
Over the last few days, the revelations about Thain's mismanagement of Merrill have been coming thick and fast -- culminating with his ouster yesterday as an executive at Bank of America, which bought Merrill at the height of the financial crisis last September.
Thain, a top John McCain backer who was tipped as a candidate for a White House post had the Arizona senator won the presidency -- has amassed quite a record in his short time at Merrill. Lavish personal spending, absentee leadership, bonuses for billions in losses -- it's almost been too much to keep track of."

Michael Gerson - Obamamania in Two Flavors - washingtonpost.com
Mr. Gerson provides us with a valuable lesson in how its done. You know, claim the media is biased without having to actually prove it. He does it by offering a charge but no one to attribute it to. You can see it in the last sentence "Why were the biblical references in Obama's speech not considered a coded assault on the Constitution, as George W. Bush's were sometimes viewed?" Who, What, Where, or When did that happen. Did ABC News say that? Maybe MSNBC, the liberal one? No he doesn't specify because that would require proof and an argument that he would probably lose. This guy took his lessons from Rush seriously.
Michael Gerson - Obamamania in Two Flavors - washingtonpost.com: "If the outcome had been different in November, would John McCain's inaugural coverage have been quite as worshipful as President Obama's -- during which the 'shiver' up the leg of journalists finally became full-fledged convulsions? Why were the biblical references in Obama's inaugural speech not considered a coded assault on the Constitution, as George W. Bush's were sometimes viewed?"

Celebrity CEO's
A reader posted this at talkingpointsmemo.com. These are the guys that Rush Limbaugh defended for years, claiming that the bonuses were needed to retain top talent. I guarantee I could loose a few billion for a lot less.
You really should take a look at disclosure this morning regarding the payment by Merrill Lynch of $3-4 billion in bonuses in late December, just ahead of the closing of the acquisition by Bank of America.
John Thain, former head of Merrill and now formerly with BofA (fired today), paid the bonuses earlier than they are normally paid (late January, February) because he knew that once the BofA deal closed, he would be unable to "reward" all those hardworking Merrill bankers and traders who lost a mere $27 billion in 2008 ($15 billion in just the fourth quarter), and whose company needed an injection of another $10 billion of government capital and $118 billion of government backstops in order to convince BofA to follow through with the 12/31/08 acquisition. Without that capital and backstop, no BofA deal, and certain bankruptcy for Merrill and its fine crew of bankers and traders.

This is a great explanation of how Chief Justice Roberts screwed up a simple 35 word oath.
Op-Ed Contributor - Oaf of Office - NYTimes.com: "How could a famous stickler for grammar have bungled that 35-word passage, among the best-known words in the Constitution? Conspiracy theorists and connoisseurs of Freudian slips have surmised that it was unconscious retaliation for Senator Obama’s vote against the chief justice’s confirmation in 2005. But a simpler explanation is that the wayward adverb in the passage is blowback from Chief Justice Roberts’s habit of grammatical niggling."

If he didn't have race, he would have nothing. Period. Millions listen to him, and he is paid millions, but most of his listeners do not have the balls t0 express those feelings to fellow workers. He is the last man standing and he is a chicken shit. I wonder how many advertisers are having second thoughts?
Crooks and Liars: "Limbaugh: I'm happy to be the last man standing. I'm honored to be the last man standing. Yeah, I'm the true maverick. I can do more than four words. I could say I hope he fails and I could do a brief explanation of why. You know, I want to win. If my party doesn't, I do. If my party has sacrificed the whole concept of victory, sorry, I'm now the Republican in name only, and they are the sellouts.
I'm serious about this. Why in the world, it's what Ann Coulter was talking about, the tyranny of the majority, all these victims here, we gotta make sure the victims are finally assuaged. Well, the dirty little secret is this isn't going to assuage anybody's victim status, and the race industry isn't going to go away, and the fact that America's original sin of slavery is going to be absolved, it's not going to happen. Just isn't, folks. It's too big a business for the left to keep all those things alive that divide the people of this country into groups that are against each other. Yes, I'm fired up about this."

Lets just cut to the chaff, theys a bunch of white boys pissed at this shit. Hell, I would like to be part of this.
Crooks and Liars: "For well over two centuries, the United States has been vastly more diverse than its ruling families. Now the Obama family has flipped that around, with a Technicolor cast that looks almost nothing like their overwhelmingly white, overwhelmingly Protestant predecessors in the role. The family that produced Barack and Michelle Obama is black and white and Asian, Christian, Muslim and Jewish. They speak English; Indonesian; French; Cantonese; German; Hebrew; African languages including Swahili, Luo and Igbo; and even a few phrases of Gullah, the Creole dialect of the South Carolina Lowcountry. Very few are wealthy, and some — like Sarah Obama, the stepgrandmother who only recently got electricity and running water in her metal-roofed shack — are quite poor."

That's strange... I did not hear Rush complain one bit about freedom of speech from a country that kind of owns the US. Where is the outrage? I thought he was all about freedom of speech. Maybe, not so much.
Crooks and Liars: "The comments by the newly installed U.S. president veered into politically sensitive territory for China's ruling Communist Party, which maintains a tight grip over the Internet and the entirely state-run media. Beijing tolerates little dissent and frequently decries foreign interference in its internal affairs."

Even the carpet got tired of being stepped on by a Republican.

Mark Nickolas: The Pundits Who Had Not A Clue Two Years Ago
Yes, once again a stunningly correct prediction on the Wall Street Editorial page.
Mark Nickolas: The Pundits Who Had Not A Clue Two Years Ago: "'Illinois Senator Barack Obama's announcement this week that he's likely to enter the Presidential race adds a dash of glamour and excitement to the Democratic field. But all of his media attention doesn't change the basic truth of the 2008 primary contest: The race is between Hillary Rodham Clinton and everybody else.' The Wall Street Journal Editorial Board, Jan. 18, 2007."

Mark Nickolas: The Pundits Who Had Not A Clue Two Years Ago
Mark Nickolas quotes the pundit that literally does not know shit from shinola, Bill Kristol, on his take on Hillary vs Obama early in the primary season. Yes the same guy that convinced the McCain team to nominate Palin for VP.
Mark Nickolas: The Pundits Who Had Not A Clue Two Years Ago: "I think she's taking some risks in staying on the center, not going to left, which is intelligent. She can still beat the left-wing democratic candidates, I think. And then she's pretty well-positioned for the general election. So this is all good for Hillary Clinton. Barack Obama is not going to beat Hillary Clinton in a single democratic primary. I'll predict that right now."

The markets give Limbaugh a present. Its exactly what he wanted.

Cheney In Wheelchair For Inauguration
So Little Dick hurt his back and can't walk huh? I don't believe it. I think he has told his buddy Limbaugh that he won't stand while Obama takes the oath of office and figured out a way to do it. Here's a thought, maybe he suffers a massive heart attack while on the stage, stands up and grabs his chest, loses his balance and falls off the stage and onto the crowd... who promptly body surfs his flatulent ass to the rear of the mall and drop him into a used chevy and whisks him out of town. Nice dream anyway.
Cheney In Wheelchair For Inauguration: "Vice President Dick Cheney pulled a muscle in his back while moving boxes and will be in a wheelchair for Tuesday's inauguration ceremony."

Return of the Geeks
Another in a long line of Bush political appointments that will help shape the determination of his place in history... as a failure that put politics ahead of everything.
Return of the Geeks: "they called it 'Julie proofing': a strategy for avoiding unwanted attention from Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Interior Julie MacDonald, who became legendary for meddling with Fish and Wildlife Service scientists whose research indicated a need for greater protections for endangered species. After enough run-ins, the scientists would learn to self-censor, anticipating MacDonald's hostile line of questioning, and modifying their own work (and conclusions) accordingly."

Jeff Frankels Weblog | Views on the Economy and the World
Bush apologist Donald Luskin, September 14, 2008 on Paul Krugmans belief that we were in a recession or heading into one. Unfortunately Krugman, not Luskin, was correct. I think even old Limbaugh himself has had some unkind words for Krugman. For more of Luskins water carrying for GWB just google Luskin and Legacy.

Meridian Star - Couple readies for inauguration
I think it is important to remember that there are folks out there that will kill for less than registering black folk to vote. In fact, they blew up three little girls, in a church, in an effort to keep black people off public buses.
Meridian Star - Couple readies for inauguration: "But could they have imagined a black man as president?
'I think so ... they always talked about how things were going to be better,' said, Kelly, as he turned to listen to a flight announcement at the Jackson-Evers International Airport, while en route to Baltimore Sunday.
'They just had this hope,' he said, 'It's what drove them.'
Eventually, Ku Klux Klansmen chased down Chaney, Schwerner and civil rights worker Andrew Goodman, killed the young men and buried their bodies in an earthen dam in Mississippi. But not before they rallied black residents to register to vote and to stand up for reform."

Daily Kos: State of the Nation
This is not a site I normally go to, but I thought the article was interesting and the comparison is just another example of the missed opportunities of the Bush years.
Daily Kos: State of the Nation: "On the rest, suffice it to say for now that if NASA is to pursue deep manned spaceflight, still put up and maintain the dazzling interplanetary orbiters and rovers we’ve almost come to take for granted, get every last possible flight out of the space shuttle, maintain the ISS, and on top of all that design, build, and test a new generation of the most advanced, powerful rockets ever flown, they’re underfunded (And that’s saying it mildly). Just for comparison: we spent enough on the AIG bailout alone to fund NASA’s entire budget for almost a decade. Anyone think AIG is going to produce ten times the value of NASA?"

"Perverse Polarity" by Paul Glastris
This has been the modus operandi of Rush Limbaugh since day one. Demonize the Democratic party, I would posit that he would like nothing else other than actual physical violence. But not from Rush, cause we all know he is a flat out chicken shit.
"Perverse Polarity" by Paul Glastris: "When the Republicans took over Congress in 1995, the polarization began to get even worse. In Reagan's time there still remained a strong sense in Washington that politics was not purely a zero-sum game between the parties. Democrats and Republicans shared certain goals in common--sometimes high-minded goals such as getting rid of loopholes in the tax code, and sometimes tawdry ones, such as protecting incumbents, but shared goals all the same. But fierce partisanship and demonization of the Democratic majority had helped the GOP take back Congress. (Then-Rep. Newt Gingrich once distributed a memo to his colleagues specifying which words to use when describing Democrats, from 'corruption, crises, decay, deeper, destroy, destructive, devour' to 'self-serving, sensationalists, shallow, sick.') Emboldened, the new GOP majority set out to systematically eliminate what remained of the capital's bipartisan political culture."

Emptywheel » This Miracle Brought to You by America’s Unions
I hadn't thought about this.
Emptywheel » This Miracle Brought to You by America’s Unions: "They're calling it a miracle--the successful landing of a US Airways jet in the Hudson and subsequent rescue of all 155 passengers. They're detailing the heroism of all involved, starting with the pilot and including cabin crew, ferry crews, and first responders. What they're not telling you is that just about every single one of these heros is a union member."

Well, he did win the 2004 election and the economy went into the proverbial ditch and the scandals are everywhere. I can't wait for 2012 and Palin-Wurzlebacher campaign. That will be enormous fun.

Two Idiots Discussing the Compensation
CAVUTO: All right. Let's talk a little bit about where you are today.
You're in what they call "the land of the fat cats," the middle of Wall Street.
(LAUGHTER)
CAVUTO: Salaries among the top five brokerage chairmen, Mr. President, were, combined, close to $300 million.
BUSH: Yes.
CAVUTO: There is an effort on Capitol Hill, as you know, to rein that in and to maybe even partly legislate it.
What do you think of that?
BUSH: Oh, I don't think the government should be deciding salaries of CEOs, or anybody else that works for corporate America.
I do believe the role of the government is to promote transparency, so that shareholders will know the compensation packages of the executives that have been hired. And I strongly believe that the role of the CEO ought to be to enhance shareholder value. And that's what packages ought to be based upon.
CAVUTO: But, increasingly, these days, Democrats claim that they're not. And they point to Bob Nardelli, the former head of Home Depot, who leaves with a $200 million-plus exit package.
Is that fair?
BUSH: Oh I think — to me, it's up to the board of directors of American companies to regulate and to make decisions on behalf of the shareholders. That's — that's why boards of directors exist.
It'd be a — it's a big mistake if Congress ever gets in the business of deciding the salary level or the compensation levels of executives, corporate executives. What — but there is a role for the federal government, and that is to promote transparency. And, when somebody opens up an annual report, the description of the compensation package ought to be clear and easy to understand.
CAVUTO: But what happens — Democrats, like Barney Frank, for example, in the House, says: All right, either make the boards forcibly more accountable, and, if they don't do the job, make Congress make them more accountable.
BUSH: Well, one of the benefits of having an — a capitalist system, where there are shareholders, is that the shareholders should have responsibility and take responsibility seriously about holding their boards to account.
Corporate governance, it's — in order for the system to function well, there needs to be good, sound corporate governance. And, I believe, once Congress decides they're in the business of corporate governance, it will make — it will make it harder for us to grow our economy.
You're in what they call "the land of the fat cats," the middle of Wall Street.

Larry Kudlow on the Economy and President George W. Bush on NRO Financial
Here is an article buy Kudlow in August of 2005 ridiculing the future Nobel Winning Economist I think Kudlow is numbers-challenged and the housing bubble, as was predicted by Krugman, did burst. Dip shit.
Larry Kudlow on the Economy and President George W. Bush on NRO Financial: "Liberal economists like Paul Krugman ridicule the Bush boom as nothing more than a housing bubble destined to burst. But if the numbers-challenged Krugman would do some homework he would find that the GDP contribution of residential investment has dropped from 15 to 8 percent in the last two years. For that matter, the consumer contribution to GDP has slowed from 90 to 75 percent. By taxing investment less, the economy is generating more of it."

Kudlow's Money Politic$: Bush Boom Continues
This guy is such a clown. Here he is in 2007 predicting a rosy forecast that he new nothing about and did not want to know anything about. How in the hell he can show up on CNBC and impart commentary about the economy is beyond me. Oh, and the part about the "pessimistas" right out of the Limbaugh playbook. These guys have no credibility at all.
Kudlow's Money Politic$: Bush Boom Continues: "There is no recession. Despite all the doom and gloom from the economic pessimistas, the resilient U.S economy continues moving ahead—quarter after quarter, year after year—defying dire forecasts and delivering positive growth. In fact, we are about to enter the seventh consecutive year of the Bush boom.
The pessimistas are a persistent bunch. In 2006, they were certain a recession was just around the corner. They were wrong. Instead, the economy posted two consecutive quarters of near or above four-percent growth."

Dan Froomkin - Bush Ends With a Whimper - washingtonpost.com
Those 30% that think he has done a good job remind me of one Rush Limbaugh's laments that Democrats could not see something because they did not want to. Same applies to fanatical Bush supporters.
Dan Froomkin - Bush Ends With a Whimper - washingtonpost.com: "Tom Shales writes in The Washington Post: 'Only his remaining ardent supporters would probably classify last night's TV appearance by President Bush as reality television. On the other hand, detractors -- a sizable group, judging by popularity polls -- would likely say George W. Bush's farewell to the nation, delivered from the East Room of the White House, had the aura of delusion and denial."

This is similar to the US auto industry. Short term profits at the expense of building long term value. 30,000 folks out of a job in one move.

Drudge is just like Hannity and Limbaugh they look for ways to spin something into their world view.

For the record, eyewitnesses say these were just onlookers from nearby buildings. But Matt Drudge depicted it thusly in a red-ink headline: ''CHEERING AT THE WASHINGTON POST FOR OBAMA ARRIVAL.'"

Editorial - The Costs of Negligence - NYTimes.com
I would call this personal responsibility. Rush and Sean would spin it as just another liberal tax increase.
Editorial - The Costs of Negligence - NYTimes.com: "There has often been an appealing vein of common sense in New Hampshire, and that is true of its regulations for people who venture outdoors. The state has always done what it can to rescue hikers and skiers who get lost or in trouble. Since 1999, it has billed them for the costs of rescue if their behavior was reckless. But in July, the standard was changed. If you find yourself in trouble thanks to your own negligence, a lower threshold of responsibility, then you also may end up paying the cost for being rescued.

Crooks and Liars
Here's the rub... O'Reilly shouted down anyone that attempted to inform him that Bush Economics was about to destroy this country. No, O'Reilly is not going to admit he and the right wing bloviators are part of the problem. Why anyone would listen to this blowhard (or chicken hawk or chicken shit which ever you prefer) baffles me. Like Rush, Sean, Neil, Liddy, News Corp and Kudlow and friends they are usually wrong.

Susan Brooks Thistlethwaite: Bush's Tortured Morality - On Faith at washingtonpost.com
Bush, like most Republicans, has a strange and tortured view of religion. Theirs is the only interpretation available, and it is usually self-serving.
Susan Brooks Thistlethwaite: Bush's Tortured Morality - On Faith at washingtonpost.com: "President Bush's rigid moral certainty has left him no room to see the contradictions between torture and goodness. This rigid moral certainty made it possible for this man, who claims to be a serious person of faith, to have as his legacy the sustained and deliberate policy to torture prisoners and to render them to 'black ops' sites outside the United States for horrific maltreatment.
The world has a different definition of America's moral standing. On May 4, 2004, the graphic pictures of prisoners being tortured at the now infamous Abu Ghraib prison raced around the world. What the world saw was the face of the United States, not as the symbol of freedom and democracy, but as a nation turned rogue state like Argentina under its military junta, South Africa under Apartheid, or Germany in the Nazi era."

I think this is just code for another Republican suppressing homosexual or some sort of perverted feelings. It will be really funny if this guy wins the leadership spot he is running for.

TPMMuckraker | Talking Points Memo | Fox's McCarver, Buck, Aikman Got US Marshals Escort From Games
My God, the sheer hypocrisy of these people. Imagine if the US Marshall's escorted Kieth Olberman to a baseball, or football game, the howling you would hear from Hannity and the boys at Fox "News" and Rush Limbaugh. And if you think about it, Olberman would need the protection cause he rags on the Fox "News" guys and Rush nightly. You would think that since FOX is number 1 in the ratings they would have the money to provide protection from the MARKET forces they so believe in. Or, maybe that is how I should have framed this post... more evidence the right does not truly believe in the free-market system.
TPMMuckraker Talking Points Memo Fox's McCarver, Buck, Aikman Got US Marshals Escort From Games: "Baseball may be our national pastime -- and football our real national game -- but that doesn't mean taxpayers should be paying to make it easier for Fox Sports' announcer team to get away from the stadium more easily."

Republican Economics
It amazes me that the Republicans are thought of as the party that has the ideas to grow our economy when the exact opposite is true and easily proven. As this article in the Washington Post shows, under Bush, yes there was expansion, but it was in the bubble sectors and does not count. In fact we are watching every gain given back... from housing prices, to jobs, to the stock market, it was all an illusion.
The number of jobs in the nation increased by about 2 percent during Bush's tenure, the most tepid growth over any eight-year span since data collection began seven decades ago. Gross domestic product, a broad measure of economic output, grew at the slowest pace for a period of that length since the Truman administration. And Americans' incomes grew more slowly than in any presidency since the 1960s, other than that of Bush's father.
Bush and his aides are quick to point out that they oversaw 52 straight months of job growth in the middle of this decade, and that the economy expanded at a steady clip from 2003 to 2007. But economists, including some former advisers to Bush, say it increasingly looks as if the nation's economic expansion was driven to a large degree by the interrelated booms in the housing market, consumer spending and financial markets. Those booms, which the Bush administration encouraged with the idea of an "ownership society," have proved unsustainable.

Crooks and Liars
I've said it before, Rush Limbaugh is a pussy, and here we go again with proof positive he still is and always will be. Whatever you think of Al Franken, you have to agree he put himself up to public scrutiny and ran against a movement conservative and put his money where his mouth is. Rush Limbaugh has a radio show that for 3 hours spills forth his thoughts with no possible rebuttal. According to him, what he says is the truth, but has no one to say, eh... Rush it is cloudy out today when he says the sun is shinning.
Crooks and Liars: "Republicans outside Minnesota are equally apoplectic when it comes to Franken. Prominent conservative Rush Limbaugh, who Franken mocked in the title of one of his books, has already jabbed Franken on his radio show, telling listeners in December that Franken “won’t quit [the Senate race] because he doesn’t know how to get a real job…He’s a pathetic figure.”"

Obama's Cheney Dilemma | Newsweek Politics | Newsweek.com
The confessions of Khalid Sheik Mohammed have been dubious at best and probably rumblings of a half mad fundamentalists that was not necessarily in on the plans anyway. But lets run with the argument that torture works. Lets put that on Mohammed Atta, one of the actual pilots that flew into the World Trade Center, lets theoretically capture him and do all kinds of crazy stuff to him. Lets nail his nuts to a 2X4, yank out his hair in clumps. Clamp electric jumper cables to his penis while water boarding him to the screaming sounds of Guns and Roses or Hank Williams Jr wanting to have some football. Lets put an electrified dildo in his ass and drill holes in his teeth with no Novocain and, using a piece of junk, made in China, Craftsman drill. You think this guy is gonna tell you he has been training for two years to hijack a jetliner and fly it himself into one of the World Trade Center buildings? Huh? This guy was committed to doing this and very few people knew it. None of the above would have made him spill the beans, and you are delusional if you think it would have. It was 8 years! 8 years, between the first attack on the World Trade Center and the next attack on Sept 11. These guys were celebrating the fact that attack number 3 did not happen on their watch.

Exxon and Global Warming
Well this is going to tick Rush, Sean and the boys at News Corp off. After all those years of carrying water for the Grover Norquists' of the world, out comes Exxon out of the closet.
Exxon Chief Embraces Carbon Tax
It says a lot about the changing climate in business circles and in Washington that Exxon Mobil chief executive Rex Tillerson yesterday came out in favor of a carbon tax in a speech at the Woodrow Wilson Center. When I asked him afterward how high a price he thought would be needed, he said the tax should probably start out "somewhere north of" $20 a ton.
That's enough to qualify as a serious suggestion. It's about what carbon has cost in the European Union for much of the time the continent has been using a cap-and-trade approach to pricing carbon emissions. And it's almost half as much as the price many people suggest would be needed to help spur carbon capture and storage at coal plants. It's also about the level that Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.), chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, once suggested as an initial upper limit on a price for carbon.
Yes, this Tillerson is from the same Exxon Mobil that for years gave funds to groups that denied the existence of climate change or mankind's role in speeding it along. It's the same Exxon Mobil that puts the carbon-breathing tiger in your tank.

The New Trough : Rolling Stone
More evidence of the sort of thing that grad students (the ghost writers of professors books) will look at without Rush and Sean spinning the actual facts about the GWB's Presidency. My bold.
The New Trough : Rolling Stone: "Bankers watching bankers, regulators who don't believe in regulating — that's all standard fare for the Bush crew. What's most striking about Jeffery's résumé, however, is an item omitted when his new job was announced: He served as executive director of Paul Bremer's infamous Coalition Provisional Authority in Baghdad, during the early days of the Iraq War. Part of his job was to hire civilian staff, which made him an integral part of the partisan machine that filled the Green Zone with Young Republicans, investment bankers and little Dick Cheney interns."

AP: Bush Legacy -- Grim Times, Gloomy Nation
This is BS. He compromised his soul to maintain a level of approval with the folks that listen to Rush Limbaugh and News Corp (Fox News). What he failed to realize is that the rest of the country caught on to Karl Rove and the right wingnut sphere. No, he did not give a shit what most of the country thought about his policies, he was only interested in the folks that got him elected and he and Little Dick Cheney paid homage to those folks. Unfortunately for him, the rest of the country moved on. Number one myth of the GWB Presidency was that he paid no attention to polls. yes he did. And all evidence points to that fact, if they say one thing, then you know the opposite is true.
AP: Bush Legacy -- Grim Times, Gloomy Nation: "'I've been a wartime president,' he said. 'I've dealt with two economic recessions now. I've had, you know, a lot of serious challenges. What matters to me is that I did not compromise my soul to be a popular guy.'"

Can you believe the bullshit that slips out of these guys mouths? Honor and integrity? From Gonzo to Libby to Yoo, a bunch of cowardly liars. And don't get me started on Little Dick Cheney. A nicer guy couldn't have a heart attack. And still they can't seem to remember that the Presidential Daily Brief , the one that said bin Ladin determined to attack inside the U.S., was given to the President on Aug 6, 2001. Over a month before the attack. No he didn't keep us safe, over 3000 died.

Economist's View: House Republicans Obstruct Bailout Plan
These folks are just bereft of ideas. If it sounds good say it, the hell with the consequences.
Economist's View: House Republicans Obstruct Bailout Plan: "[Do] Republican counterproposals floating around make any sense...
One, that of the House Republican Study Committee, seems to be a joke. It calls for a two-year suspension of the capital gains tax to 'encourag[e] corporations to sell unwanted assets.' But the toxic mortgage securities clogging up bank balance sheets are worth less now than when they were acquired. Meaning that no capital gains tax would be owed on them anyway. If you repealed the tax, banks would have even less incentive to sell them because they wouldn't be able use the losses to offset capital gains elsewhere. Seriously, where do these people come up with this stuff?"

Bangkok inferno puts spotlight on police payoffs - World Blog - msnbc.com
Another great example of the free-market, no regulations system that Rush and the right want. Only this time instead of the financial system its the buildings. That old Ronald Reagan nostrum comes to mind "Government is not the solution, Government is the problem." To bad Rush, Hannity and Walter Williams were not celebrating the new year in here. 64 dead. If only they had believed in the free-market system. But, maybe they did and the result is, the market took care of this inefficiently run club
Bangkok inferno puts spotlight on police payoffs - World Blog - msnbc.com: "BANGKOK, Thailand – The initial investigation into the pub inferno that killed 64 New Year’s revelers here makes for depressing reading: Not only did Bangkok's Santika Club have no operating license or insurance, there were no heat or smoke detectors, no fire alarm, no emergency lights, no fire escape sign and no sprinklers. It was packed with highly flammable material, electrical wires were dangerously exposed, windows were blocked and the main entrance was just over six feet wide, according to experts quoted in the local media.
It was, in other words, a death trap."

Real Time Economics : ADP Reports 693,000 Private-Sector Jobs Lost in December: "Private sector jobs fell 693,000 in the U.S. in December, according to a revamped national employment report published Wednesday by payroll giant Automatic Data Processing Inc. and consultancy Macroeconomic Advisers.
That’s far higher than the 515,000 loss forecast in a Dow Jones Newswires survey.
The December ADP survey is the first to incorporate a major overhaul of the methodology, including new regressions. The changes were introduced because the ADP survey has underestimated the monthly number of job losses as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics since the recession began in December 2007."

Mississippi now has highest teen birth rate - Kids and parenting- msnbc.com
More evidence that whatever the Republicans eschew as the "moral' and "conservative wasy to do something it results is utter failure. The exact opposite of what they propose to happen, happens. In this case the New England (liberal) states come in with the lowest birthrates per 1000 as opposed to the bible thumping "conservative, abstinance, states. From the "Iraq war will pay for itself" to " abstinance programs work best" these folks are wrong on everything. Everything.
Mississippi now has highest teen birth rate - Kids and parenting- msnbc.com: "The lowest teen birth rates continue to be in New England, where three states have rates at roughly half the national average, which is 42 births per 1,000 teen women.
Statistical blip?
It’s not clear why Mississippi, with 68 births per 1,000, surged into first place. The state’s one-year increase of nearly 1,000 teen births could be a statistical blip, said Ron Cossman, a Mississippi State University researcher who focuses on children’s health statistics.
The New Mexico rate was 64 per 1,000; Texas was 63. New Hampshire, with a rate of 19 per 1,000, was the nation’s lowest.
More than a year ago, a preliminary report on the 2006 data revealed that the U.S. teen birth rate had risen for the first time in about 15 years. But the new numbers provide the first state-by-state breakdown."

ABC News: Bristol Palin's Cameo Role in Teen Pregnancy Trend
I remember Rush going all crazy about some perceived increase in oral sex after the Lweinsky affair, claiming it was all Clintons fault. Crooks and Liars
Obama should chuck the bipartisanship. The Republicans are going to do everything they can to cause him to fail. Screw them, they had their chance and drove the country into a ditch.
Crooks and Liars: "Obama is in a similar position to FDR, but what will Conservatives do? Will they try to block his policies that he wants to sign into law as soon as his first 100 days begin or will they become part of the solution? I think we know where Mitch McConnell's head will go. They want to appear to be relevant, but it was their control that has put us in this position to begin with.
I hope Obama's love affair with bipartisanship will come to an end very soon. Not because I don't think it's a good idea to have both sides working together, but because Conservatives are incapable of doing just that. They do not want Obama to succeed because it will weaken their grip on American politics for years to come at the expense of average Americans just trying to get by.
It's about ideology for them and not about the healing that our country is in desperate need of. I think Obama will soon feel their un-partisan wrath sooner rather than later and hopefully it will snap him out of any thought he had that he could work with Conservatives, no matter how 'centrist' he goes. So here's the question.
How fast will Obama get fed up with Conservative obstructionism? Will it be in his first 100 days or shortly after?"

Investors dump $89B in U.S. securities in historic fire sale - USATODAY.com
Remember when it was thought that the Republicans were good with money, how everyone was grateful that we had an MBA President. Everything George W. Bush touches turns to junk.
Investors dump $89B in U.S. securities in historic fire sale - USATODAY.com: "As the global financial crisis grew more severe this summer, foreigners sold almost $90 billion of U.S. securities — the greatest quarterly fire sale by overseas investors since the government began keeping track in 1960. U.S. investors also are retrenching; they unloaded about $85 billion worth of foreign holdings in the quarter, says the Commerce Department's Bureau of Economic Analysis.
'We've had a global panic. Everyone is pulling their money home,' says economist Adam Posen of the Peterson Institute in Washington, D.C.
That's bad for economic growth in the U.S. because it threatens to starve capital-hungry companies and entrepreneurs. But it's especially serious for emerging-market countries that rely heavily on outside financing. Capital flows into countries such as South Korea, Turkey and Brazil were evaporating even before the mid-September Lehman Bros. bankruptcy made things worse.
The reversal of private capital flows signals an abrupt end to a nearly two-decades-long era of financial globalization, says economist Brad Setser of the Council on Foreign Relations. Private flows into and out of the U.S. for purchases of stocks, corporate bonds and federal agency bonds have dropped from around 18% of economic output to near zero 'in a remarkably short period of time,' Setser says."

TPM: News Pages | Talking Points Memo | Kempthorne touts Interior reforms in final speech
Is this the dignity that GWB was going to bring to Washington D.C. or was it energy policy that Little Dick Cheney put in place? I'm really going to miss these guys.
TPM: News Pages Talking Points Memo Kempthorne touts Interior reforms in final speech: "The past two years have seen news accounts of Interior staffers who have been found to have improperly interfered with Endangered Species Act decisions; have been convicted of lying to Congress; and have been discovered to have had sex with oil-industry executives, as well as using cocaine and marijuana. Most of this activity took place while Norton headed the office, between 2001 and 2006."

Op-Ed Columnist - Paul Krugman Blog - NYTimes.com
I am sure Rush and News Corp are both anticipating this and are laying out the groundwork to slather it all over Obama. In fact Rush started the day after the election.
Op-Ed Columnist - Paul Krugman Blog - NYTimes.com: "A bit more information to go with my post on stimulus: forecasters surveyed by the WSJ predict, on average, that unemployment will reach 8.1 percent by end 2009 and peak at 8.4% — that is, it will keep rising into 2010. That’s a forecast of what will happen with the stimulus plan, not of what would happen absent stimulus, which would presumably be considerably worse.
Two points: 1. This suggests that the consensus is at least as grim as the scenario I laid out 2. This looks to me like an economy that could easily be spun by conservatives as a failure of Obama’s policies."

Dana Milbank - Aspiring RNC Chairmen Wonder: What Would Reagan Do? - washingtonpost.com
Here is what his friends are saying. The worst President in American history.
Dana Milbank - Aspiring RNC Chairmen Wonder: What Would Reagan Do? - washingtonpost.com: "'It's not the easiest thing in the world right now to be a Republican,' Steele began, setting off 90 minutes of self-flagellation: 'We are looked at being to some degree a party that is not friendly to minorities. . . . We lost our way. . . . Republicans should've had a little bit more you-know-what. . . . Obama caught us with our pants down. . . . They've bested us. . . . We can no longer afford to talk one way and behave in another.' Norquist invited the candidates to name the biggest mistake of the Bush administration, and the answers tumbled out: The economic bailout. Greater deficits. Mishandling the Iraq war. Hurricane Katrina. Social Security. Immigration."

Are the Dems Plotting to Hush Rush?
Fear. There is always has to be something to be afraid of, otherwise their shtick doesn't work.
Are the Dems Plotting to Hush Rush?: "Conservative talk-radio hosts love to position themselves as the victims of liberal media conspiracies, and the Fairness Doctrine gambit certainly fits the bill. But there is little substance behind the overheated rhetoric. Most Democrats have little interest in a big legislative fight over government regulation of the ever-shrinking sphere of broadcast media. And Obama has explicitly said he's not in favor of reviving the Fairness Doctrine. This summer his campaign issued an unequivocal statement on the subject: 'Sen. Obama does not support reimposing the Fairness Doctrine on broadcasters. He considers this debate to be a distraction from the conversation we should be having about opening up the airwaves and modern communications to as many diverse viewpoints as possible. That is why Sen. Obama supports media-ownership caps, network neutrality, public broadcasting, as well as increasing minority ownership of broadcasting and print outlets.'"
