Here is another round in the Bush Legacy Series. In the future we will call this the BSe, or, the Bull Shit express. These authors have been writing about the economic meltdown for almost two years, but the GWB cheerleaders did everything they could to mute any realistic assessment of the developing economic situation. In fact just a few months ago George Will, a conservative columnist for the Washington Post, wrote that we are not in or are we in any danger of a recession. President Bush and the Republicans were asleep at the switch. Just as they were prior to 9-11, Katrina and any numerous items I am loathe to iterate again.
Deborah Siegel and Jacki Zehner: The Confidence Man: "It's time to wake up and smell the economy. Sadly, there's no short and easy fix to the longer-term problems created by excessive borrowing combined with rampant consumerism. Yet Paulson insists (White House Stimulus Fact Sheet, Jan. 18, 12:03pm, WSJ.com), 'By passing an effective growth package quickly, we can provide a shot in the arm to keep our fundamentally strong economy healthy and help keep instability in the housing and financial markets from more adversely affecting the overall economy.' Believing the economy to be grounded on a 'solid foundation,' Paulson is ignoring the walls falling down."
